Human Resources and Office Manager

The Center for Earth, Energy and Democracy seeks a self-driven and ambitious full-time staff support manager to join our highly successful and supportive team. This new role will fulfill the Office Management and Human Resources needs of the organization. CEED also provides staffing and leadership to the Equitable and Just National Climate Platform and several regional and local environmental justice coalitions such as the MidWest EJ Network. CEED was a key player in the founding of both.

We strategically work to:

  • Build a deeper body of climate and energy research/analysis that fundamentally addresses racial and class justice.
  • Provide energy and climate policy technical assistance based on CEED research to support the environmental justice movement.
  • Promote strategies for cross learning and sharing of information around environmental justice, energy and climate issues.

Human Resources and Office Manager Responsibilities: 

Office Management: 

Ensure smooth and efficient office operations for a remote staff and a national Board of Directors. Anticipate the needs of all staff in order to ensure a seamless and positive virtual office experience to directly support their programmatic success. 

These tasks include:

  • File and folder organization on Google Drive.
  • Management of office related budget, office supplies, software and equipment,  manage contracts, utilities and lease for office space(s).
  • Management of logistics, materials and agendas for board and staff meetings and retreats.
  • Serving as the point of contact with the IT consultant and managing IT plans, inventory and projects.

Human Resources Management:

Ensure the success and happiness of a growing staff through the recruitment process, administering competitive salaries and benefits and progressive employee policies. This work will directly support the staff and ensure programmatic success.                                  

These tasks include:                                  

  • Managing the staff hiring process from advertising to interviews all the way through on- and off- boarding.
  • Administration of staff benefits to include analysis and annual renewal of policies.
  • Evolving the current employee policies to better serve the current remote work environment and culture.
  • Developing and leading organizational wellness programs.
  • Administration of annual over-all organizational insurance policies to ensure legal compliance and manage risk.

The first six to eight months could include projects such as:

  • Managing the hiring and on-boarding process for up to 7 new staff.
  • Purchasing and setting up software and equipment for all new staff.
  • Updating the staff hand book and office and human resources related policies.
  • Researching and hiring an HR consulting firm.

Skills and Requirements:

Required:

  • 3-5 years combined office management, IT and human resources experience, preferably in a social justice non-profit environment.
  • Solid knowledge of HR principles and practices.
  • Ability to thrive in a remote environment.
  • Strong technology and systems skills, particularly with Google Suite, Zoom, Microsoft Suite, Asana, Adobe.
  • Proven ability and interest in administering and coordinating communications and systems needs for a growing organization.
  • A desire to be proactive and create a positive working experience for others.

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated commitment to CEED’s mission from environmental justice experience, broader social justice experience, employment, internship, volunteer work, trainings and/or education.

Reports to the Operations Director and/or Deputy Director. Legal support provided by an outside HR consulting firm.  

Salary and Benefits:

Salary range is $65,000-$80,000, depending on experience and location. 100% employer paid medical, dental, vision, short- and long- term disability and life insurance policies. Employer-paid monthly contributions to a Health Savings Account. 10 holidays, 10 sick days and unlimited paid vacation time. Office closed for one week in July and December. Flexible work schedule. 100% remote or Minneapolis office based  employment. Paid professional development and all work related expenses paid and/or reimbursed. Exempt.
