The Center for Earth, Energy and Democracy (CEED) Reacts to EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) Awardee Announcement

By CEED, Apr 4, 2024

Washington, DC (April 4, 2024) — Today, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced its first round of awardees for the $14 billion National Clean Investment Fund (NCIF) and $6 billion Clean Communities Investment Accelerator (CCIA) representing $20 billion dollars that will be awarded to eight applicants as part of the historic Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF). The Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF), made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), is a groundbreaking $27 billion investment that will work to advance Justice40 across the country to deliver much needed investments and real benefits to disadvantaged and low-income communities while also tackling the adverse effects of climate change and pollution. In collaboration with coalition partners in Minnesota and around the country, the Center for Earth and Democracy (CEED) advocated for the creation of the GGRF and provided guidance to EPA to influence the design of the program.

In response to the EPA’s announcement on the initial recipients of the GGRF, Byron Gudiel, Executive Director at the Center for Earth Energy and Democracy (CEED) shared:

“It’s encouraging to see these vital Justice40 investments get to disproportionately  overburdened communities from around the country to support pollution-free energy and climate projects. This is only the beginning. We hope EPA continues to work with awardees to create robust community engagement processes, provide clear information on their decision making processes and most importantly deliver direct benefits to environmental justice communities. We look forward to seeing the recipients of the GGRF $7 billion Solar for All competition awards.”
